Sometimes the nice guy does win!

A little while back attentive readers will remember that I put an election sign on my lawn for the first time in my life because of the excellent candidate for City Councillor we had running in our ward against a person whom all and sundry, it would appear, had found arrogant and hostile and astonishingly fond of developers and development.  While the damage of the last four years cannot be undone, and while we are the target of a city intensification plan that I approve of in theory but not in practice, an astonishing thing took place on Monday night. In an election that was predicted to be a squeaker, our fellow, Jeff Leiper, won by more than 3000 votes, and our ward, Kitchissippi, had the highest voter turnout in all of greater Ottawa.

It is an oldie, but maybe their best album ever, and excellent for attempting to start to tame the jungle I have created by bringing all my plants back inside including some new geraniums, and this coleus that roots like mad, and was so healthy that I am now breeding them surprisingly fast.

but, but, but… what about Abbey Road, or the White Album, or Rubber Soul? but you did qualify with a maybe, so you are OK.

i think this is on topic. the trailer on this page actually comes across more partisan than the actual documentary. so i hope some of those so disinclined, will give the actual flick a chance. there are also more outtakes on you-tube. i cannot presently find a free version, but i will keep looking. it can be rented for 1.99 on Amazon Prime.

me too on the plants Xty. maybe some pictures later but you have to go first.

I am glad someone is making a documentary about your town – it is a must tell story.

actually it has been out since 2012. it does not seem to have had any impact. who knows though, maybe things would be even worse now here. there is a lot of propaganda flying around due to the elections – both sides are guilty of that. but ask someone who lives here. real unemployment and underemployment is probably worse now than during the great depression. i do not have hard numbers for that, but my grandfather (RIP) told me a lot about that era in Wisconsin.

i am guilty of posting a lot of what can be considered negativity. i want to be clear that i am no “doomer”. i just want people to wake up, because only then will they demand change. after 3/4 of the population is penniless, and dependent on the government for subsistence, and what is actually provided is barely even that, it will be too late to fight back. and to the real doomers out there – no healthy human being wants to live in your world. instead of hunkering down, get out there and try to affect change. or for now just start to think through the issues yourselves, and quit accepting at face value the pre-packaged, instant, just add water, BS, propaganda.

i am completely calm right now, this is just how i write. someday, maybe i will post video. that way you will be able to see my “shit eating” grin 😯 , as well as some of my other driest of dry (humor), way too subtle, non verbal cues.

i will go take a picture of my favorite plant outside. we have not had a killing frost just yet. my indoor stuff is still in disarray.

Rookies- everybody knows it’s Sargeant Pepper- and spell check says I’m spelling it wrong.

Xty- are the Beatles (whom I never was that impressed with) illiterate, or is that proper British?

Mrs Dude is cramping my style with her over winter keepings also. Now damn s.c. says “keepings” is wrong too. i.d.c.

I just bought another camera- #4.

I know, Xty, your son’s teacher said every good photo tells a story, but I prefer the ones that ask questions.

Well then- once you screw up a picture, it’s hard to edit

  13. Dude says:

Sorry- I didn’t listen to this before I posted it.

  14. Dude says:

At 9:55- “I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her, and kept her away from the things that she loved…………..”

What the goddamn-hell stupid-ass kinda bullshit is this? I swear I never heard it that way before!?

Yeah – a horrible lyric. I think I can defend Magical Mystery Tour because it has its eponymous song, Fool on the Hill and Penny Lane. The White Album is ruined by Let’s Do it In the Road, Everyone will be Disgusted and happiness is a warm gun, a repellant metaphor. John Lennon was a pretty unhappy person and drank an awful lot.

Lately one of my favourite Beatles songs has been Act Naturally, and just like when I tried to defend Jimmy Buffett by bringing up Southern Cross which turned out to have been written by Stephen Stills. I got one of my brothers-in-law to play it when we were at the cottage, and not only did he pull it out of his voluminous brain, it turned out that
“Act Naturally” is a song written by Johnny Russell and Voni Morrison, originally recorded by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, whose version reached number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart in 1963, his first chart-topper.”

  17. xty says:

But he plays it really well, and Stills sounds kind of super depressed to me:

  18. xty says:

Either way a fabulous song, although again the lyrics are sad

Probably the best assessment of what to expect on election night that I’ve seen. The Repubs have the edge (also in Wisconsin Governor’s race), so it’s expected that Tea Party Fascism, and the accompanying Depression that goes with it, remains on the march. But still, things could be interesting, and a final resolution might take until January. Like they say in sports, analyze all you want, they still have to play the game. They still have to run the race. So, let’s see.

One bright spot. This really is just a skirmish. The Final Battle is 2016. I’ll probably spend from now until then in my Bunker of Doom, plotting strategy. Thank God for canned bacon.

In other news, faith-based investors are being crucified on a cross of metals and miners today, while fact-based investors are looking at that crusty old barbarous relic called the Dow Jones Industrial Average less than a hundred points from an all time high. The irony is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Or a twist of the knife…whatever.

  21. EO says:

And, I like the early Beatles stuff. The first two US releases on Capitol records. They had completely lost their edge by the time Rubber Soul came around in late 1965. How they stayed together until 1970 is a mystery, and a monument to inertia. The greatest cover band of all time. (oh, snap!)
