What a great mum! I feel I have kind of dropped the ball … but have a salutary Saturday and remember that the best time to plant an oak tree may have been twenty years ago, but the second best time is today.

Word of the Day
Now initially you might think you don't need or even want to know aboutbutyrate (ˈbjuːtɪˌreɪt) noun,
any salt or ester of butyric acid, containing the monovalent group C3H7COO- or ion C3H7COO–, and when you then bumped into this, having first found out it is in butter, you might well panic:
Examples of butyrate in a Sentence
Recent Examples on the WebClear plastic screwdriver handles are usually made from cellulose acetate butyrate, a material developed in the 1930s.
— Roy Berendsohn, Popular Mechanics, "Why Do My Old Plastic Screwdriver Handles Stink?," 8 Oct. 2017But then you would realize that lately it has had a great rise in reputation and helps maintain your biodome and aids in the production of key neurotransmitters that help both our gut and our brains to work. Apparently we make it when bacteria in our bellies ferment high fibre carbohydrates, but it is also, and here is the punchline, found in butter! The highest food source for it. I am relieved, and think I will just butter up everything!
At least these verbose scientist think so:
The neuropharmacology of butyrate: The bread and butter of the microbiota-gut-brain axis?

Welcome to the Lighthouse
Not when I tried the darned thing! And we used to have that simple choose file option … not sure why it isn’t working when it appears from the web that others have it working just fine. I will ferret out the answer.
But just for fun I will retry with the imgur link:
ha! that is exactly what produced the “does not exist” comment … gremlins!
But here is the strip mall, now that it seems to be working. I am still determined to get a slightly better option.
Hmnnn, this is just a temporary experiment …
which failed …
but that worked … comment box loaded wrong though on first load … but the little image box worked with a direct link from imgur. Maybe I am onto something. Patience (if there is anyone out there ….)
Weird … I had to reload an empty comment to get the pretty comment field back. Now does an emoticon work? No. But they display. Frust, as I heard on Mythbusters, this is getting a frust rating.
👿 well at least this way the emoticons work … But I kind of almost liked that other comment setup if I can figure out the wrinkles and get it to load each time and do the emoticons.
😡 😡
❓ 😈 👿 😡
❓
I give up for now. But at least imgur seems to be working.
Dug up my germaniums and brought them inside, now to eat lamb curry (homemade but out of the freezer, but now with sour cream and fresh coriander). House smells fabulous even if it is a shambles. Never a good housekeeper, and then ended up with all of the stuff from mum’s room and then broke leg … finally beginning to get through piles. Good lord, what a lot of stuff one can accumulate if one never throws anything out!
And a happy fall garden, falling over …
i like the old way of posting images also. not only are there too many steps now, but the image is smaller, and then that border with text in it detracts from the image somewhat. so knock yourself out, but don’t break a leg.
and now for your next riddle… the prize for the correct answer is 1 million dollars. who not only said this, but also moved doomsday into November?
“A.M. Propose last week that those that are working in the military, or in other uniforms such as police are still held in high esteem by the populace, and correctly surmised that a man in uniform is much more attractive to a female. This is a huge part of the problem. If women as a group would recognize that their husbands, boyfriends, or lovers, were engaged in activities directed by people of malevolent intent, and withdrew their support, as well as their sexual favors, the system would collapse overnight. That’s probably not going to happen anytime soon.”
oh, i forgot to mention that the prize money is denominated in Zimbabwe dollars.
I just can’t seem to find the conflict in the plugins, and other people are not apparently having my problem and usually I am pretty good at stumbling upon cut and paste code solutions … but it requires a previous genius. But when I get the old choose file button and try to post using it there is a broken link … must be a solution and as we know if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.
Hmnnn, who would manage to blame women for all the world’ problems and think withdrawing sexual favours would cure all …. I am torn because I cannot decide if a woman or a man would come up with such a daft theory. I am pretty sure if men were collectively denied sex we would have more war … but maybe I reveal too much about my personal life ….
Will contemplate riddle on dog walk.
And Good Morning.
And the image that I was trying to post that won’t show was my new fixed leg X-ray – and while I am having a bit of a setback weekend, my leg is behaving much better and I can go up and down stairs much, much better.
Just because it was conveniently sitting on my desktop, not because it is terribly interesting, unless you are me and cannot believe there is a large chunk of metal in your body, forever.
It really looks an awful lot like an electric toothbrush.
i also have some titanium inside my body. probably could get a picture of it. but you would win for having more.
the Bob songs come and go on you-tube. this one has regained some relevance lately.
i know it’s not healthy, but i still really hate wing-nuts. i will try to get better.
Good morning. I am going through a mood adjustment, as is undoubtedly obvious. I remember my dad once saying that just because he was crying it didn’t mean he was unhappy … I am beginning to understand.
But it is a good thing … finding balance both literally and figuratively is very difficult but very rewarding. I highly recommend the book on the side bar about brain neuroplasticity as it brings great hope to being able to fix all sorts of things, without much intervention but with a lot of fairly hard introspection and exercises. And when I am required to make an effort I get grumpy … lifelong problem and I have been unfortunately famous all my days for having shouted out in anger “I can’t say swan” when I was three. Hoisted on my own petard. So off to walk the dog and then go to the athletic therapist … I really have so little to complain about it is ludicrous and I should be a happier person. I am wearing a magenta t-shirt with a golden happy face (hidden by a tasteful sweater of course) hoping it will infuse my heart.
Love you guys, and I really mean that. See, happy tears …
I think wing nuts are destroying your beautiful country and you are entitled but must watch out for yourself. You would make a lovely Canadian …
you can read this, or listen to it by clicking the audio link. there is another point of view… you might even call it ours Xty. and i formulated much of mine after reading the authors and their works mentioned here, and certainly not through parroting repetitive right wing talking points heard on the radio.
and thank you for the invitation. 🙂

Good morning. I did listen to that episode, and while I think he is a little of the rails when he talks about Hayek, and keeps calling him von Hayek – it is as if he read a different Road to Serfdom than I did, which wasn’t an attack on government so much as an attack on coercion and changing and arbitrary rules, and misrepresents Friedman’s understanding of “No Free Lunch” – the use of debt to enslave is mostly spot on.
I pick on the no free lunch because the cost here of Wall Street’s apparent free lunch is the average man’s despair and the ultimate collapse of the debt structure – it is just taking a long time for the bill to arrive. Just because Wall Street doesn’t bear the cost yet doesn’t mean there is a free lunch. But everyone should read Economic Hitman and recognize what the IMF and World Bank have done.
Hmnn, not exactly a good morning thought. But a better morning personal feeling wise here, and did not toss and turn nearly so much.
I am wondering because of my stats if some might need to restart their browsers or something if they are getting this message:

Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help.
When I was playing with plugins I used the x-ray picture as a guinea pig because it was sitting on my desktop. But that picture posting link is broken …. and I deactivated the plugin. Later today I am going to try removing all plugins and then adding them back in so if you get a weird looking comment form be assured all should return to normal, or more hopefully, a new and better normal by day’s end. In the meantime I am going to put a Russ Roberts’ podcast up on the main page, clean the house for my pal who comes and helps every other week, so he can find the floors, and then walk the dog. Loathsome lovely daughter showed me that my new software on my old iPhone counts my steps … I don’t trust the distance because I assume it counts steps and multiplies to get distance and my gait is peculiar to say the least. But it does allow one to compare days, roughly speaking, and I want to up my average! Spiral up not down …
yes, the article i posted has its own spin. but is it counter spin to the far rights interpretation of Hayak as much as a challenge to Hayak’s actual views? i will say this… it was far easier for me personally to claim myself libertarian when that just meant that maybe you were a little weird. these days, now that libertarian mostly identifies a person as a selfish, hate filled and ignorant sack of pus, it’s much harder to admit… many thanks to the teabaggers and various other Kochs.
i have that Confessions book on my nightstand. i mean to reread it. it is underneath A Confederacy of Dunces, which is another intended reread. so good luck finding a box to fit me in. 🙂
history says we will have financial reform. a very solid majority will have to be in major pain first, is all.
À la lanterne!
good luck with the plug ins.
