Now initially you might think you don't need or even want to know about
butyrate (ˈbjuːtɪˌreɪt) noun,
any salt or ester of butyric acid, containing the monovalent group C3H7COO- or ion C3H7COO–, and when you then bumped into this, having first found out it is in butter, you might well panic:

But then you would realize that lately it has had a great rise in reputation and helps maintain your biodome and aids in the production of key neurotransmitters that help both our gut and our brains to work. Apparently we make it when bacteria in our bellies ferment high fibre carbohydrates, but it is also, and here is the punchline, found in butter! The highest food source for it. I am relieved, and think I will just butter up everything!
At least these verbose scientist think so:
The neuropharmacology of butyrate: The bread and butter of the microbiota-gut-brain axis?
That was interesting. I do actually live in a fairly distinct neighbourhood, Hintonburg, with an active community association, and Ottawa does divide up into neighbourhood blocks within reason, but the thought that the streets are the empty spaces reminds me of my mother-in-law talking about teaching her students to draw the empty spaces around a chair, so that they wouldn’t draw their pre-conceived notion of a chair,
And oddly, just the other day my middle son mentioned that we live in the H block – 6 streets in a row that start with the letter H.
But yes – just because we do something and it works doesn’t mean there isn’t an equal or better way of approaching things.
perspective sometimes is just that – different angles, arbitrary, none the better or worse.
sometimes what is good for one person comes at the expense of another. or sometimes the benefit is immediate, but the cost comes later. so a point of view so to speak, needs to at least consider the possibility of perhaps infinite other angles.
this is stuff i have been thinking about lately. so depending on a person’s point of view, and plenty of unexamined assumptions, we have a certain ism, that is not working for everybody, whether your field of vision is your neighborhood, your society (nation?), or for the world as a whole.
Good dog pictures are hard for me to get. Something always goes wrong. They move, or look away, or get glowing eyes, or redeye. Plus, I’m a duffer with just my phone, nothing fancy, so it’s a self inflicted problem to some extent.
Good pictures of Jenny are rare. Here’s one we got this past week or so.
Edit: oops, don’t know how to rotate. Or why it tilted like this in the first place.
Well, this is interesting, purely from the perspective that it is something I hadn’t considered before. All we ever see are articles about how a Greek exit from the Euro would be apocalyptic. And here…maybe not. I’m not saying I’m pro or con, or good or bad, it’s just an eye opener for me. They have a process for bringing countries in. Why wouldn’t they have a process for kicking countries out? It’s food for thought.
Germany Sees Greek Euro Exit as Manageable Outcome, Spiegel Says
What a pretty girl, and what a pose!
And yes, I am sure they can let Greece go now that they have finished with it. I cannot imagine a solution to Greece other than letting them go and toughing it out on their own.
And this was our back deck this morning, and now it is going down to -17 celsius and then even colder. It is a skating rink outside, and thank forethought for the communal snow blower that cleared the mountains of snow from the plows:
That is a really sweet song, and how adorable is she? Cool.
Yes, serious cold coming shortly, but it’s been pretty damn easy so far, so no bitching allowed.
And now a youtube that has no apparent connection to this or any other post.
OK, I was quiet for a while, but these fuckers are really starting to piss me off. You don’t want the job? We’ll get someone who does. I’m ready to go all Reagan on your asses. You think you have the bigger guns? Wrong.
Mayor eulogizes officer as cops outside turn backs
Seriously. The police in this country have come to believe they are a force unto themselves. Their own law, beholden to nobody. Somebody has to crack these bastards, and HARD, right now, or forever forget about it.
How about immediate termination with no pension and no health insurance? How does that grab you? That’s just for openers.
Still 70 here, windows open..huge thunder storm headed this way around 9:oo or so.
I do love those storms.
The trees are coated with ice and the wind is starting to pick up – just under freezing – and they are crackling.
Walked into the other room and flipped on the TV. Caught some goofy show called “Sister Wives”. A reality show about polygamists. My only questions were “why are these people allowed to make a ton of money with a tv show??” and “why are they not all in jail??”
Yes, I’m very judgemental, and yes, I’m ok with that.
damn EO we might be the only ones left functioning in this place (Virgo!) Cowboys vs Pack, should be good.
old tune.
Yo, Pete, I like our chances at Lambeau. Cowboys cheated the Reaper against the Lions.
Thinking up a tune, but it needs to be good….
Damn. I kinda teared up watching this. Just goes to show you what conditioning from childhood will do to you. I was 7 years old.
Supposed to be a high of 21 next Sunday. Not too bad. But bad enough.
OT for sure..have you made, cooked ; cabbage rolls? brother is tinkering with and old family recipe, but getting the cabbage moist and cooked in has been a struggle. suggestions welcome. Eric fiddles,..Rome burns..
Oh Jeez, this one is even better…
“Eric fiddles, Rome burns”
lol, I like that! Very funny and insightful.
I don’t know nuthin about cabbage rolls though. I’d check with the woodpecker.
night all…
I think being less judgmental would be a good thing, EO, and I know that sounds ridiculous coming from me but it really is something I have been working on and seeing things through other people’s eyes is where compassion starts …
but having said that Sister Wives is so bizarre that the first question that really comes to mind is how did that db get four and now it looks like a fifth woman to marry him. He can’t be rich enough to get past his physical repulsiveness. There is another show with a guy with five wives. If you asked my hubby, he would say one was more than enough. And I have trouble enough with one husband.
I’m open minded about a lot of things, but polygamy ain’t one of ’em.
And Good Morning! It’s -8 F here. An extra cuppa tea may be in order.
Good Morning, -8 here also. Tried to commemorate this awe inspiring temp with Muddy Waters’ Nine Below Zero, but Youtube seems to be having problems. Also couldn’t play the Oak Ridge Boys’ Tryin’ to Love Two Women re:polygamous. I would assume that you all, as I, am against polyandry as well.
As I said, one is plenty, of either gender. The thought of having two husbands …
My blog writing timing is off as I am working hard at sleeping [failing] but making myself go back to sleep in the early mornings as much as possible. I will have to find a better schedule than getting up at 5:30 it seems! Self-discipline is apparently involved and I am looking for mine but it seems to have escaped.
And today being really what felt like the first day of the year, I opened a bunch of mail and sorted out bills, and the best I can say for it was it was very paper negative and no ghastly surprises. But trying to address practical concerns and there are an awful lot of them once you start looking.
And when it is -20 c outside, the dawn is a little less tempting I might add. And dark. Which makes it not dawn, I realise. And it really does get colder right before dawn, even if my father-in-law chose to argue with me about it.
